The Snatcher originated in the 1990s on Loch Leven as a buzzer (chironomid) imitation, the body hackle keeping it higher in the water than other buzzer patterns. The Kate McLaren is perhaps the classic Scottish wet fly first tied by William Robertson for John McLaren, and named after his wife. Combined, it has become a staple of many a loch fisher’s fly box and works just as well on large southern waters.
